2014 Junior Saloon Car Champion, James Dorlin was thrilled with his first outing in the Renault Sport Clio 3 race car at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit this week.

The test day, supplied courtesy of multiple race winning team, Westbourne Motorsport was part of Dorlin’s prize after winning the junior series in only his second year of competing.

It was a huge step up from the Junior car with over twice the power from the 2.0 Renault engine and a sequential gearbox to get to grips with.

Weather played it part with a damp track to start, eventually drying before the heavens opened later in the day.

Westbourne’s Ed Pead was driver coach for the day and helped James to get to grips with the new car.

Ed commented “having worked with many junior drivers in our seven year association with the series it’s great to see another fast driver making the step up from the JSCC series. James got to grips with the car really quickly and we were soon lapping very quickly in some tricky conditions, in the dry he was really committed”.

Westbourne’s Team Manager Richard Colburn was on hand to share the day with Dorlin. “James did a cracking job, I was really impressed by his maturity and focus. He listens well and definitely has an abundance of natural talent, he’ll be one to watch next year”.

James Dorlin hopes to compete in a full season of the Michelin Renault Clio Race series next year.

James said “I had been really looking forward to the test and it didn’t disappoint. The Clio was great and once I got to grips with the car felt totally at home, and put in some good times. To compete in the Michelin Clio Cup series next year has to be the natural progression for me having won the JSCC this year. I would like to thank Richard and the team at Westbourne for a great day.”

Westbourne Motorsport have announced today that they will offer the same prize to the 2015 JSCC Champion and shared test days in the Road Series version of the Michelin Clio for second and third in the championship, a prize fund valued at over £3000.

The Junior Saloon Car Series has produced many of the current UK Renault Clio Cup competitors supporting BTCC. This year three of

the top five drivers come from JSCC. It is the leading proving ground for young talent in UK Motorsport.
